Protect Your Musical Gear Right Away Under Dedicated Insurance

Musicians are incomplete without their musical instruments. Whether they play it as a hobby or earn from it, even a little scratch on the equipment is a big deal for them. Therefore, most people protect their musical gear as their tots.

Are your musical instruments well-protected?

Are you a musician or someone who deals with musical instruments? Well! You must be very particular about your items. Right? So, you go the extra mile to ensure the safety and security of your musical arms.

You clean them after every use. You take them for regular servicing. And perhaps, you have also included them in your homeowner's insurance policy. Isn't it? A great move. However, in a world full of uncertainties, is your home or personal property insurance enough to provide the required coverage?

Read on to find out if your home coverage will suffice or if your musical paraphernalia needs something more - something as crucial as a comprehensive Music Gear Insurance plan from a reputed insurance service provider.

How does your musical instrument insurance work in general?

When you cover your musical instruments in your personal property insurance (policies made for protecting personal belongings from covered perils), and unfortunately, a covered risk happens, for example - damage or loss of your gear, your insurance provider will pay for the repair or whatever needs only up to your policy limits.

Also, many insurance companies have a sub-limit for some categories of personal belongings, such as music gear. Now what are sub-limits? You may define sub-limit as a clause applicable for high-risk or valuable items. Having that said, if your musical instrument suffers damage or loss, your insurer is more likely to pay only a specific amount.

Here is an example for you:

Your home insurance policy offers a $2500 sub-limit on musical equipment. Misfortune hits! Your place is robbed or vandalized, and your darling string goes missing. However, you still have some peace of mind left because you know that your string instrument is covered under your home insurance. Here comes the twist.

If the cost of your guitar is $5000, your insurance provider will pay no more than $2,500 minus the deductible. Does the rest amount? It will be out of pocket. The reason - is the preset sub-limit for musical equipment. Always remember! It may not be an all-encompassing cover.

Now that you have an example in front of you, you may get a sense of how important a separate musical instrument insurance policy is. Moreover, industry experts emphasize buying a separate Music Gear Insurance plan for your beloved instruments.

What if you pay an additional premium by adding a rider?

With most home insurance policies, there is a provision for adding a rider to up your insurance coverage to adequately protect your gears. You can always do that. However, did you know - your home insurance is less likely to extend a shield to your musical instrument if something happens to it outside the insured property, i.e., - your home? Yes, that's true.

So, if you are sure that you will play your gear only inside your home or you will never ever play it for professional purposes, you may stick to your home insurance policy and the ride. Otherwise, it is highly advisable to buy a dedicated insurance plan for musical instruments.

Dear reader, a musical instrument, irrespective of its type, without separate and comprehensive insurance protection is an unprotected investment. Most importantly, it may make you pay more than you imagine should something unfortunate happen to your gears.

Some words of wisdom

Do you buy a car and include it in your home insurance plan? No. Right? It is because car insurance is mandatory for many good reasons. Although buying a musical instrument insurance plan may not be compulsory on most fronts, it guards your interests. Therefore, make it a point to buy it when buying your musical gear.

The Best Music Gears to Learn from Professional Musician

Music provides us with an entirely new universe filled with amusing notes and tones, and it is a getaway for some people, a passion for others, hobbies for some, and a source of income for some. Like any other art form, music production also requires distinctive accessories or gear to produce the art form efficiently. However, since they come at quite a fortune, it is recommended that they are safeguarded via Music Gear Insurance.

Moreover, the producer's imagination is the essential gear for music production. Their ears and mind are the most significant accessory for music production.

It is optional to get the high-end and expensive gears for excellent music production which are present with the professionals in exquisite music studios.

Anyway, to start, or as a beginner, a few essential accessories are needed that could enhance the quality of the music being produced.

Laptop

A laptop comes in quite handy when music production is in question. It is lightweight, portable, and has a less axillary setup, unlike a desktop. The laptop should meet the basic requirements for installing the software in which the tracks are to be prepared or edited.

Nevertheless, it does not need to be a costly model. However, one with a fast processor reduces time lagging even while implementing loads of sound effects and virtual symphonies. Also, one should make sure there's enough storage for smooth work. Another major feature is the number of USB ports with the model for connecting external equipment to the device.

Digital Audio Workstation

This is the essential software for music production, arrangement, editing, and mixing. It provides the essence of an actual music studio and has virtual tools for most operations. Some of the popular DAW are - Ableton, FL Studio, etc.

DAW is the ultimate versatile tool in music production; it also provides the facility to edit and mix tracks in live performances. They come at different prices, with more and more features being unlocked at higher prices. However, it's worth every penny to invest in these.

Speakers

The speakers matter to a great extent in music production. Speakers generally culminate certain track aspects to make it sound pleasant to the ears. Sometimes speakers automatically change the bass, tone, or intensity of amplification of the tracks. This is only sometimes desirable as it deviates from the precision of the desired audio track. In these cases, precisely flat-responsive speakers are the most appropriate.

Headphones

It is not an integral part of the music gear but has a significant impact when used to perfection. Some monitors are passive; that is, they need an external amplifier to hear every minute detail of the track; we usually need a set of good flat-response headphones that do not alter tones and notes.

However, quieter surroundings and an active monitor with an amplifier incorporated within itself produce better sound quality. Certain essential features of the headphones like chord length, noise removal facility for noisy surroundings, and, most importantly, higher impedance for better tonal quality.

Audio Interface

These intriguing devices connect monitors, microphones, and external audio cards with other music gear. However, these things are usually expensive and must be ensured with Music Gear Insurance coverage. An Audio interface increases portability and boosts the tonal quality of music produced at live events or gigs.

Moreover, the cables used for connecting devices must be high quality to reduce braking noise and glitches during the recording procedure.

Other Optional Accessories

A MIDI keyboard comes with many additional keys, buttons, and knobs that facilitate the production of a range of octaves. However, this is optional as the modern software comes with virtual keyboards to fulfill their job without purchasing one.

Similarly, a good microphone can be a worthy addition to the gear or studio; however, having one is optional if one focuses on music tracks rather than vocal recording. However, modern reorders incorporated within the device can do a commendable job.

Conclusion

Starting your career in the professional music industry might seem like a hysterical task, although it might not be that way. Simple gadgets may come handier than you think. It is optional to invest in expensive gear. Passion for music is the most important gear required.

When Does Music Instrument Coverage Take Effect?

Most musical instruments are usually exquisite. Take the piano or the viola. Each of these instruments is highly delicate and expensive. Any person who purchases any musical instrument certainly doesn’t want their instrument to be damaged or cause any loss to them. Thus, an instrument coverage insurance policy would make them feel safe to use their instruments freely. The policies usually cover the perils of theft, fire, accidents, and physical damage to the instrument. However, all the policies are subjected to some terms and conditions which exclude some specific unforeseen events in which the insurance policy does not take effect.

You cannot claim insurance funds for a loss that has already taken place. Getting insurance for your musical instrument beforehand would be best to cover the incurred losses. A musical instrument insurance takes effect only when any loss complying with the policies of the coverage document occurs. It usually includes the loss due to accident, burglary, or fire but cases of mishandling are not included in the terms and conditions of the coverage policy.

Newly Acquired Instrument Policy

The insurance covers recently acquired instruments up to the value of 50,000. The purchase of the new musical instrument has to be accounted for. This is particularly important to get the instrument insured. Newly possessed instruments are often insured quickly and do not require hassle.

Borrowed Instrument Policy

Borrowed musical instruments also can be insured with ease. This often requires informing about the obtained instrument within 48 hours of possession of the same. The instrument coverage up to the highest-valued item on the policy generally has free coverage for the first 30 days.

Replacement Insurance Policy

If the instrument that has gone through a covered loss is being repaired, then automatic insurance content for a relief instrument is provided. This content limit is over the value of the instrument being repaired. Hence, it makes it very efficient in such times of loss.

Partial Loss Damage Policy

If only some part of the instrument is damaged, the policyholder can hold on to some undamaged part if they desire. In such events, the value of the undamaged part kept would be deducted, and the rest of the insured value can be claimed. Therefore, the undamaged part does not have to be purchased again. This saves the person a lot of money in the case of instruments with lots of accessories like the piano.

Inflation Guard Policy

The Inflation Guard protects the policyholder against rising costs that are beyond the control of anyone. Only instruments that are manufactured within two years can earn this insurance coverage. An amount more than what the instrument is insured for can be collected if the instrument is insured for an amount within two years of the price increase.

Repurchase Policy

In this clause, the policyholder can claim the entire amount of the musical instrument to repurchase it. This holds effect in case of fraud while selling the product or when the instrument is damaged entirely within the stipulated period of the policy mentioned in the document.

Business Interruption Policy

This clause provides for the financial losses that the artist incurs due to the damage to the instrument. A professional artist dependent on any instrument for livelihood can avail of this insurance policy. It would provide coverage for an estimated value of the entire assumed business that the artist claims to have done in the given time during which the instrument got damaged or stolen.

Conclusion

There are various ways to get coverage for your musical instrument. It is a necessity for any musician, whether a beginner or a professional, to get their instruments insured for safety and to have less worry about their display of art. Various insurance plans are designed for these purposes. You can choose the right plan based on your requirements and needs. So don’t wait and get your instrument covered at the earliest!

Why is the Viola a Popular Musical Instrument?

The viola is the oldest of the present day’s main stringed instruments, pre-existing the cello, violin, and string bass. Viola, analogous to the violin, is a stringed musical instrument having lower and deeper sounds and therefore, is the alto voice of the violin family. It is to be noted that the viola is a very delicate but exquisite instrument therefore its safety must be ensured with viola insurance.

Originating in northern Italy between the years 1530 and 1550, the viola initially was viola da braccio which translates to the viola played in the arms. It mainly emerged after the instrument Soprano gained popularity in the mid-1500s.

Why is Viola so lovable?

Violas are in between violins and cellos in both size and tune. It has the alto voice between the violin being tuned to a perfect fifth above and the cello having a tuned octave below. Thus, it is the ideal instrument for those with not so high a range as violins.

Violas are rather unique in the sense very few people start by playing the viola.

Music of viola, violin, and cello can be played by a violist leading to more efficiency in music theory. The viola maintains the same string notes as the cello, but an octave higher, so music that is written for the cello can be easily arranged for the alto clef without any changes in key. Learning different clefs is also beneficial for a musician.

Playing viola leads to proficiency in different genres of music as violists can perform a wide variety of instruments’ music.

Playing the harmony is rather effortless than playing the melody, making the viola a perfect choice for beginners.

How Viola Differ from Violin?

Viola and violins, though similar in appearance, have significant differences that make them stand apart.

Size

The viola is slightly larger than the violin. Although the size of the viola is set, it usually ranges from 38cm to 43cm. A full-size violin has a 35.5cm long body. The bow of the violins is, however, somewhat longer than that of the viola.

Strings

Though both violins and violas are four-stringed instruments, the notes of each string differ. The viola string order from lowest to highest is C, G, D, A. Violin strings, on the other hand, go from G, D, A to E.

The viola has thicker strings and is tuned to be one-fifth lower than the violin leading to a lower range.

Sound

Violins are the highest-pitched instruments in the string family seconded by violas. A viola produces a deeper, mellow, and slower sound than violin because of its thicker strings.

Clef

One of the main contrasts between the violin and the viola is the clef that each instrument uses. Music for the viola is written in an alto clef, which uses the C clef. The viola is the only instrument to use the alto clef whereas the violin uses the treble clef.

Bow frog

The viola bows are a bit heavier, with curved frogs (end of the bow) than violin bows which are generally straight-edged. The viola bow also has a wider band of horsehair.

Techniques

The techniques used in playing viola and violin are different due to their sizes and tunes. The fingering is quite different as the viola has heavier strings which require more intense weight application to vibrate them.  However, both of them have the same manner of holding.

Use

The sound of violins is carried above another instrument hence, they are used to play the melody lines. They can also be used to harmonize whereas violas are mostly used to fill in harmonies.  Violas are more popular in folk music and violins in jazz music.

How to keep your Viola safe?

Violas are delicate musical instruments requiring care and maintenance. Restringing every 3 to 6 months, distancing polish and fingers from bow hair, and using humidifiers to avoid cracks to keep it safe are some ways to ensure the longevity of a viola. However, having viola insurance is the key to its long-time safety.

Conclusion

Viola can be thought of as an instrument that has seen the journey of evolution rather than being instantaneously invented. Due to the intrinsic property of the timbre, the viola has a melancholic and richer tone than the violin. Viola belongs to an extremely sophisticated and exquisite range of instruments; thus, it is recommended that professionals get their viola insured to ensure the safety of their viola. It has an undeniable contribution to the world of music though it was initially highly overlooked.

What Guitar Instrument Must a Beginner Choose?

As a beginner, choosing your first guitar can be overwhelming. There are various options, but they should inspire you to unwind in your creative outlet.

Buying a new guitar strikes a few common questions, like whether to choose acoustic or electrical, what should be the best size, what features are essential, and what additional accessories are required. "Can I have guitar insurance?" is also a very valid question.

Here, we will discuss these questions and help you choose the perfect guitar!

Acoustic or Electrical?

For beginners, guitars are categorized into Electrical, Acoustic, and Classical.

•    The most popular type of guitar has to be acoustic. It comes with a hollow body to amplify the sound of the strings without the need for electrical amplification. However, they can be amplified with a removable pickup if needed. They are cost-effective as there is no need for external amplification, and they have a rich tune. Acoustic guitars are primarily used in jazz, country folk, and blues.

•    Electric guitars are the easiest to learn as they come with thinner necks though they produce faint sounds. So, they need an external amplifier to enrich the sound quality. These are the most versatile guitars opening a world of potential for various sounds. Electric guitars are primarily used in metal, rock, and blues.

•    Classical guitars, also popularly called Spanish guitars, are the most cost-effective ones. They come with softer nylon stings on the hands, particularly making them beneficial for beginners. It certainly does not need any external amplification. They are primarily used in folk or flamenco and other classical styles.

•    Semi-acoustic guitars combine the merits of both acoustic and electric guitars. They can come with an in-built microphone for increasing the volume of sound produced and an onboard equalizer for tonal control.

On a general note, electric guitars are most preferred for beginners, though they need additional equipment, as they are very simple to learn.

What is the best size?

The size of the guitar matters to a great extent for aspiring practitioners. The instrument should fit properly within the arms of the user, i.e., they should have proper reach across the length of the guitar.

The string length, the length of the string from nut to saddle, or the part of the string that vibrates, should range from 24.5 to 25.5 inches, but the user's age matters as shorter people would find it easier to handle smaller guitars.

The incorrect length of the guitar makes it difficult for the person to play and affects the ability of the person. The neck's width, frets' spacing, and guitar weight must also be considered while buying a guitar.

Essential Features:

•    Thinner neck
•    Low action, i.e., a distance of string to the neck, but not low enough to create unwanted sounds
•    There should not be too many harmonic overtones
•    For electric guitar, you must pay heed to the quality of the pickup
•    Thin strings and narrow necks help with play-ability
•    Take note of the quality of soldering work and components used, like bridges

Additional accessories:

•    The amplifier is only necessary for electric guitars but not for the other two. Practice amps are recommended for beginners.
•    Cable used in electric guitar must be long enough to connect it to the amplifier.
•    The tuner is necessary for any guitar, and head-stock tuners are mostly recommended.

Insurance for Musician

Accidents may happen, but musical instrument insurance can be availed to prepare for the worst-case scenario. The coverage of the policies generally includes theft, fire, and other causes of loss. Your valuable instrument can be protected by the right guitar insurance policy that provides the best coverage for your inventory.

Bottom line

As we have said earlier, getting a guitar can be overwhelming if you are new. And before getting one for you, you must research well. After all, you will not want to waste money on something not ideal. We hope this article helps you in getting your ideal guitar.

What features make older musical instruments sought-after?

People love vintage musical instruments for their unique appearance, historical and cultural significance, and tonal quality. Moreover, you may have often heard people saying that older musical instruments produce a better sound. Do you know why? Here are the possible reasons:

•    One of the main possibilities is - age-old luthiers or other instrument makers used better-quality raw materials. An example for you! Vintage saxophones were crafted using heavier brass. And wooden musical gears mature with time while producing better sound. In simple words, time seasons musical instruments to the best of their capabilities.

•    The second possibility is - the approach to manufacturing musical gears - strings or woodwind - in older days was different. They were made in smaller lots with negligible automation involved, thus producing the finest products made with devotion.

•    Thirdly, as they are old and vintage, or maybe you have received them as an heirloom, you tend to take care of them carefully.

So, all these things add a desirable charm to vintage musical gear. Therefore, it is imperative for all musical instrument owners to provide all-encompassing coverage in the form of a Heritage Instrument Insurance plan.

Now, let us move to the question-answer session involving musical instrument insurance.

What is the purpose of getting a musical instrument insurance plan?

As a musical instrument insurance policyholder, you will get financial protection against accidental damages, theft, or damage to your gear. It extends insurance coverage for the replacement cost or repairs (if needed) of your instruments. Moreover, the extent of coverage you will receive relies on the invoice value of your gear.

What if someone else or their property is damaged due to your musical gear?

Third-party liability cover is one of the best things associated with comprehensive musical instrument insurance plans. It covers you financially if a third party is injured or their property suffers damage due to your gear. It takes care of the legal and medical affairs without having you stress your mind.

Will your homeowner's insurance policy cover your heritage musical instruments?

It is a million-dollar question. Well! The answer is - Yes. But there is a catch. Although home insurance plans cover musical gear as belongings, there are several caps. Firstly, you are less likely to get complete coverage. Secondly, it will not protect your musical gear outside your home. These two ceilings may lead to incomplete coverage. Therefore, it is always a wise idea to buy a separate insurance plan for your musical instruments.

How much does Heritage Insurance cost?

The cost of a comprehensive insurance plan for vintage musical instruments is likely to vary from one insurance provider to another, depending on several factors. These include the following:

•    The extent of coverage
•    The declared value of your gear
•    Your location
•    Number of instruments you wish to insure
•    If you use it professionally or as a hobby

•    Get all the instruments chained together - While traveling with your musical equipment, it is better to get them tied with a chain so as to avoid the risk of theft.

•    Park your car in a safe place - Never Park your vehicle in an empty parking area or any dark place where the chances of robbery are high. Also, avoid leaving your car stacked with expensive equipment overnight.

•    Keep your storeroom locked at all times - The room you store all your valuable gear should be kept under lock and key when you are out of the premises. It’s better to use a deadbolt lock for better protection.

•    Carry your instruments in a sturdy case while traveling - It’s advisable to carry your music instruments in a good quality sturdy case in locked condition while traveling.

•    Safeguard your Cello instrument with standalone musical insurance -
Despite taking all possible precautions, accidents happen and can result in an unbearable loss. Advantage of Opting for Specified Musical Insurance for Your Fiddle

The fiddle is a vital member of the string family and is primarily used to play folk music. Like the violin, the fiddle is also delicate as it can get cracked or popped when exposed to wind or sunlight. This situation can affect the sound of the instrument and even make it unplayable.

Regular cleaning, routine maintenance, and following some crucial safety measures are the keys to protecting your valuable equipment from all possible damages and keeping your instrument in playing condition for years. However, despite all efforts to keep your woodwind safe and secure, some unavoidable incidents may happen that can land you into trouble in terms of confronting a financial loss and losing your favorite gear forever. To eliminate such risks, opting for dedicated Fiddle Insurance would provide you relief in recovering the loss to replace or repair the instrument.

Here are five coverage that protect your instrument from accidental damage:

Accidental Damage Coverage - Despite taking all necessary precautions, unavoidable circumstances may occur that are mostly beyond your control. However, as a musician, you should be prepared for the worst so that you do not face any financial hazards. To secure your beloved instrument, you need a comprehensive coverage policy that only specified musical insurance can provide.

Theft, Robbery, or Burglary Coverage - It’s a fact that your precious music gear can get stolen even when you are at home. However, the chances of theft are higher when you travel for an event or while loading and unloading your musical equipment from the vehicle. When any valuable instrument gets stolen from your house, your homeowner’s insurance covers the loss to a specified limit. But if the mishap happens outside your insured premises, your household policy will not cover the loss. In such a scenario, only dedicated musical insurance coverage is the solution to your gear.

Fire and Special Perlis Coverage - No matter how hard you try to protect, accidents happen, and you might lose your gear forever. In case of any damage due to fire, explosion, strike, or riot, you remain financially secure if you have taken standalone musical insurance for your instrument.

Natural Calamities Coverage - Due to heavy rain, storm, flood, or an earthquake, if your prized string instrument gets damaged, all you need is dedicated Fiddle Insurance to cover the entire cost of the equipment to repair or replace it.

Liability Insurance Coverage -
If you are a professional music player without liability insurance, your venture is at risk. In case any of your clients are injured, or their personal property gets damaged at your own arranged event or your commercial premises, in such a scenario, you might face legal complications as well as massive financial loss. Liability insurance covers the loss in case any third party brings legal charges against you and claims compensation.

Guidelines for Choosing the Right Insurance for Your Woodwind

When insurance companies design any policy, they craft it according to the requirement of a particular product so that the policyholder can avail of maximum benefits. You should purchase an insurance policy designed especially for your precious equipment.

Many musicians opine that homeowner insurance is enough for musical instruments. However, the household policy only works if the risk occurs at the insured premises. If accidental damage happens to your equipment outside your house, you might face an unbearable financial disaster as homeowner insurance will not cover the loss.

Choosing the right policy for your woodwind is of paramount importance. Hence before finalizing, you should thoroughly research the coverage you need for your fiddle. You need a policy that provides comprehensive coverage so that, in case of any mishap to your instrument, it covers the entire value of the equipment. In such a scenario, Fiddle Insurance is considered the best component for your gear as it covers the loss of damage equal to the value of your string instrument.

Conclusion

Choosing a dedicated musical insurance policy is a wise idea to safeguard your valuable string instrument from accidental damage and financial disaster.

When Your Fiddle Becomes the Best Companion of Your Life

Have you finally made up your mind to buy a long-awaited fiddle? A musician cannot deny that purchasing a decent string instrument requires a good investment and almost a year to learn and develop oneself from the beginner stage to an accomplished fiddle player. When you spend your hard-earned money and time on your passion, you should keep your favorite instrument in extreme care. Here, fiddle insurance comes in handy. Regular care, routine maintenance, and insurance coverage act as a weapon for the sustenance of your favorite string instrument.

Is it difficult to take good care of your fiddle?

The answer is "No". Here are a few quick, simple must-do steps that will help you to keep your four-string wooden instrument in good shape.

Regular cleaning will help prevent damage.

After every playing session, it's a mandate to wipe the wooden body of the fiddle with a dry soft microfiber cloth as the varnish on the wood is quite delicate. Without proper cleaning, it might lose its shine with time. Also, as the strings are an important component, it needs to get wiped gently with care.

It is always advisable to change the microfiber cloth regularly. For best results, the cloth or duster has to be changed after every wipe and keep it away from dust, dirt, sweat, and rosin.

Along with proper care, make a habit of keeping your string instrument in a strong, hard, fine-quality wooden case as exposure to air, humidity, or direct sunlight may cause damage.  Using a cost-effective casing is not a great idea at all. A cloth-based bag is not also advisable to consider for your valuable instrument.

In addition, the fiddle should be at room temperature as strings of instruments can get cracked or swollen in high humid conditions. To obtain a sustainable performance of your instrument better to keep it in a solid wooden casing with a proper locking system at a stable temperature.

There is a "Big No" to using any commercial polishing liquid, wood cleaner, or water for cleaning your fiddle instrument. A regular wipe with a dry cloth is enough to keep it away from any damage.

How to clean rosin from strings?

Rosin dust is the white substance that you find on your string instrument. Despite regular cleaning of the fingerboard and string, you may find a lot of rosin and dirt on your fiddle that sometimes gets thick and difficult to get wiped out with a dry cloth. In this scenario, you need to take special care and use the specialized string instrument cleaning solution or an Italian branded cream or polisher that will enable you to get rid of the rosin completely.

Never buy any oil or solution from a local hardware shop. Annual servicing of your fiddle is also necessary for long-term performance. It is always better to consult a professional and get a deep cleaning to protect your fiddle musical instrument.

Is it required to change the strings of the fiddle frequently?

The frequency of changing the strings depends on several factors. Majorly, it depends on the quality of strings used in the fiddle, the playing habit, and maintenance. According to the experts, the strings of a fiddle should be changed every 6-12 months.

Why is insurance integral for your fiddle?

Regular care, proper maintenance, and time-to-time string replacement will keep your fiddle in great shape and enable it to perform well for a long time.

However, despite many efforts to keep your musical gear in perfect condition, still, mishaps occur that are beyond anyone's control. Only secured fiddle insurance coverage can save it from irreparable damages. In the case of fire, theft, or any other accidental damage, a dedicated musical instrument policy would be a relief for you and save you from incurring high replacement costs. So, get your favorite instrument insured with music insurance company now.
