Why A Young Musician Needs Insurance

When you decide to make music your career, you have to analyze the pros and cons of the decision. Musicians who have made it big in the industry not only accumulate fan following but amass large sum of money. Can you do it? Since it is a creative profession, much of what happens in the future depends upon luck. The next obvious question any practical person would ask you is whether you can depend on luck alone? We have often seen in the past that talented musicians have faded away in oblivion simply because some things didn’t work for them. Yes, it could happen to you too. That’s why you need to be prepared and that’s the reason why we are talking about insurance today.

One of the most prized possessions of a musician is his musical instrument. Whether you play the banjo or the guitar, whether you are a percussionist or a drummer, your instrument plays an important role in your success. Considering all these things, it only makes sense to get musicians’ coverage. If you are still undecided upon getting insurance, the following points should help.

•    You musical instrument is the tool of your trade. It helps you earn your money as well as your reputation. But in case it is stolen, damaged or lost what will you do? It isn’t very easy to buy another viola, for example, and that’s why you need viola insurance.

•    A musicians’ insurance is also helpful when you have to pay large amount as compensation. This situation may arrive if something went wrong with your concert or gig and you have been sued by the audiences. Public liability insurance helps in such situation.

•    If you are employing someone to play in your band or as a manager, you have to be prepared for future legal actions, if such a situation arises. You will be required to pay for the employee and an employers’ liability insurance can help you save millions of dollars in such situations.

•    You can also claim insurance if there has been a fire in your studio or in the event where you were performing. In such cases, not only your valuable instrument suffers damage but you may also incur grave injuries.

If you haven’t given insurance a thought till now, there’s no better time than now to start looking for the best policies. There are several companies which offer insurances specifically for musicians only.
